Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is a public technical and research university. It is located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India and is considered to be one of the most demanding colleges for technical studies in India. The college was formerly known as the University of Roorkee, and it started its B.Arch journey in 1956. This college has a distinction for being the first one to institute in India the Master's degree program in M.Arch back in 1969. Later MURP He was introduced to the institution in the year of 1973. Being among the oldest institutions in Asia, the college is affiliated with UGC. This public technical university covers an area of ​​365 acres and has great faculty members.

Bachelor of architecture

●      Candidates should have scored at least 75% aggregate in Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. (65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are mandatory subjects in the Board examination.

 

●      Candidates should be within the category-wise top 20 percentile in their standard 12 (or equivalent) board examination, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.

 

●       B.Arch candidates are needed to appear for AAT conducted under JEE Advanced or appear for NATA.

 

 

 

 

Master of architecture

●      Candidates must have a bachelor's degree of B.Arch/B.Tech(Civil) or equivalent with minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA but for sc/st category the minimum marks required in bachelor degree is 55% or 5.5 CGPA.

 

●      IIT candidates who have graduation with a minimum score of 8.0 CGPA would get direct admission without the GATE.

 

●      Full-time sponsored students can apply for admissions. A sponsorship certificate should be with the applicant.

 

●      There is no age limitation for taking admission to any post-graduate program at IIT Roorkee.

 

 

 

Master of urban and rural planning

 

●       M.Arch admissions would be available for the students who have a BE/ B.Tech Degree in a relevant discipline or AMIE with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/ PEDs).

 

●      Students would be eligible if they are GATE qualified for admission in the M.Tech program.

B.Tech admissions are on the basis of high school Board exams along with JEE Mains & JEE Advanced depending on which a merit list is prepared to shortlist students. 

Candidates must also register themselves for JoSAA through which Counselling is conducted for eligible Admission sections depending upon scores in GATE and in bachelor's degree.

Campus Facilities 

The main campus of the institute covers an area of ​​about 365 acres. It also has a separate campus of 25 acres in Saharanpur that offers multiple courses including process engineering, polymer science, and more. The architectural department has multiple facilities starting from the climatology lab, computer lab, computerized design studios, and more. All the labs, workshops, and studios are well equipped with software, costly assets, etc. Moreover, there has been a recent addition in the department which is the Net Zero emission lab set up under the INDO - UK Programme. Besides that, six labs have also been set up that include virtual reality lab, SPARSH, urban dynamic labs, Civic design lab, industrial design lab, and laboratory of inclusive design. This college also has a well-equipped library, lecture rooms, halls, canteen, software laboratories, faculty offices, and computer centres. Other than that, it also has well-furnished hostels for the students.

Alumni Network

The college started its alumni association in the year of 1940. It has given birth to many notable alumni who have contributed to the architectural development of India. To be precise, one of the alumni of this college includes Nilmani Mitra (1828–1894), 19th-century architect, designer of several palaces in Kolkata. Moreover, it is known that about ten alumni have won Padma awards and 25 have been honored with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology.
